Assessment sessions

I would not ask anyone to commit to therapy sessions without first having a thorough assessment of their needs. It is possible that we may find out together that there is another service more appropriate for your needs. If this is the case I would do my best to signpost you to the help that you require.

There is no obligation to book another session after our first meeting.

Individual therapy sessions for adults

Sometimes a problem needs only a few sessions before things start to feel much more positive. There are times when problems need a bit longer. I have worked with people therapeutically in time frames from anywhere between two- three weeks and a year. I think it is something that needs to be decided between the therapist and the individual within the first two sessions. This can then be reviewed regularly. I prefer to be honest about what I think people need.  I would also much rather be told if a person has a specific time frame in mind.

Individual therapy sessions for adolescents

Being a teenager is a very difficult time of life. I think we often see it through rose-tinted glasses as adults and wish that we could go back to that time. I have a lot of experience in working with teens of all ages. My approach is adaptable and flexible to meet the needs of the individual. I require minors (under 16's) to be accompanied by an adult to initial assessment appointments. Further session arrangements can then be negotiated.

(I also work within other organisations and hold current Disclosure and Barring Service Clearance (DBS checks).

Individual therapy sessions for children

Often my work with children is related to phobias, fears and anxieties. I ask that parents attend sessions with children and  most often it is key for the parent to be involved in assisting the child to see positive changes in emotions.

I am adaptive and flexible in my approach to working with children, each child is unique and their strengths can be brought forward in various, and often creative, ways.

My Approach

I am trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. This approach means that I work alongside clients to help develop personal strategies to manage distressing conditions and symptoms that are having an impact on the quality of their daily lives. CBT focuses on making positive changes to thinking styles and behaviour patterns in order to offer relief from the vicious cycles of unwanted emotions.

I am an experienced Mental Health Nurse and my approach is person-centred. I wholeheartedly believe that the therapeutic relationship is key to success in therapy. I therefore welcome clients to book an assessment session so that we can meet and find out if we are a good fit for therapeutic sessions together.
